Royal Family News: Sophie Wessex Destined To Fill Princess Margaret’s Royal Role?

British royal family news shows that Sophie, Countess of Wessex, has a royal star on the ascension. The wife of Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, is said to be her mother-in-law’s favorite and that counts for a lot when one’s MIL is Queen Elizabeth.

Sophie married the queen’s youngest child in 1999 and although she had early scandal, she has never ridden the PR wrecking ball to the extent of Harry and Meghan. Thus she is said to be held in high regard and trusted with prominent royal roles.

Based on Sophie’s place in the queen’s constellation some royal experts are suggesting that Sophie Countess of Wessex has filled in part the void left behind by Princess Margaret. Margaret was the queen’s sister and died a tragic death in 2002. Their mother, referred to as the Queen Mother, died less than two months later. The queen was said to be bereft as she was very close to her younger sister, and a hole was left that was never filled.

Nonetheless a royal aide told the Daily Mail in 2018 that the queen, “talks to Sophie in the way she used to talk to Princess Margaret. Sophie has filled a terrible gap in the Queen’s life that was left when her sister and the Queen Mother died in 2002.”

Another insider spilled, “She is like another daughter to Her Majesty, they are that close.”

Richard Kay is the Daily Mail’s Editor-at-Large and he agreed with the opinions writing, “Touchingly, the Queen is doing much the same for Sophie, whose mother Mary died aged 71, in 2005, by making sure that the Countess’s father, Christopher, is included on the invitation list to many Royal Family events. The Queen and the Countess also share a fascination with military history.”

He added, “Sophie loves listening to the Queen talk about great historical events, and the pair are sometimes gone for hours, pouring over ancient documents in the Royal Archives, which are kept at Windsor Castle.”

“When Sophie visited the World War One and World War Two battlefields and cemeteries in France, she told the Queen all about what she had seen and what she felt.”

Perhaps most tellingly the queen has praised Sophie, who is one of seven senior royals who can represent the Queen, for her dedication to public life.

Finally, royal expert Marlene Koenig says of Sophie’s star quality, “She’s got superstar qualities without the flashing light bulbs. She’s been a stable influence, and doesn’t need the fuss… She’s learned what it means to be a member of the Royal Family and support the sovereign and she does very well.”
