Royal Family News: The Queen Is In Scotland For Holyrood WeekBritish royal family news shows that 96-year-old monarch Queen Elizabeth made the trip to Scotland for Holyrood week after speculation she could miss out due to health issues.

The historic Ceremony of the Keys is the traditional opener to the event and for this the monarch was accompanied by her youngest son, Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, and his wife, Sophie.

Royal Family News – The Queen Is In Scotland

Edward and Sophie are known as the Earl and Countess of Fofar when they are in Scotland. The event takes place at the Palace of Holyroodhouse and typically the monarch is given the keys to the city and welcomed to her, “ancient and hereditary kingdom of Scotland.”

According to the Independent, other royals are due to participate in public engagements this week, including Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.

The annual event is called Royal Week in Scotland and it is a time for Her Majesty to check in on the country and meet and greet the locals. The Queen, and sometimes other members of the royal family, typically visits several regions in Scotland and on these visits the opportunity to celebrate Scottish culture, achievement and community are taken.

During the annual event the Queen hosts a garden party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse. The event is devoted to recognizing, “the good work undertaken by people from all walks of life throughout Scotland. The party is accompanied by music from regimental bands and The Royal Scottish Pipers Society. Traditionally, the Queen also undertakes a series of public engagements throughout the week.”

Royal Family News – Scotland Is Hosting The Queen

Earlier this month the queen celebrated her Platinum Jubilee which marked her 70-year reign; she is now the world’s second-longest reigning monarch. The event was celebrated June 2-5 and was a smashing success. Millions of Brits attended block parties, went to parades, and toasted their monarch’s reign.

She was able to attend a few events in-person but mobility issues kept her from attending a large number of celebrations in her honor. Her health issues have resulted in the queen scaling back her calendar although she has kept many engagements digitally.
