British royal family news shows that The Firm is just too jolly and bright to avoid media scrutiny. According to Ian Hislop, the editor of Private Eye, the clan would be left alone if only they were “dull.” Which as the headlines attest to, they are definitely not.
The comment was made in the second part of the BBC’s controversial two-part documentary series “The Princes and the Press.”
Royal Family News – The Royals Are Not Dull
One of the times the media seized onto the royals’ excessive lifestyle had to do with then-royal Meghan Markle. She flew all the way from London to New York in February 2019 for a lavish baby shower for her first child Archie. In the documentary, Amol Rajan, the BBC’s media editor, showed British newspaper headlines that screamed about the enormous costs spent to glorify Princess Pinocchio.
Hislop told Rajan in the film that publications don’t cover the royals, “as long as we feel they’re having quite a boring life involving dogs and horses and Scotland and other avoid this type of scrutiny from things we’re not terribly jealous of.”

Hislop added, “The minute they’re having a good time, that all looks a bit too much fun, and the basic job is to sit in the rain and wave.”
Piling on to the royal boringness was columnist Rachel Johnson, the sister of UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson. She said that, “women journalists,” view Kate Middleton as the, “perfect template” of what a royal women should be.
And what does that template look like? According to Johnson, Middleton is, “not political, doesn’t open her mouth very much in public, who makes short scripted speeches on very safe subjects.”

Royal Family News – Kate Middleton Is A Safe Princess
She added, “Whereas Meghan Markle will talk about period poverty, she will talk about racism, she will talk about female empowerment. These are trigger subjects in this country where the royal family, despite being led by the Queen for 70-odd years, is still a very patriarchal, hierarchical country.”
Meghan herself said some unflattering things about her royal rival during the now infamous Oprah Winfrey interview. Meghan is the subject of a bullying investigation at the palace, which she denies. But what about her bullying comments about Kate: “Kate was called ‘Waity Katie,’ waiting to marry William.” Sure sounds like a bit of sour grapes mixed in with some bully-esque words.
