According to royal expert Katie Nicholl, Kate especially tries to prioritize her duty as a senior member of the royal family. She told OK! that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, “will break their royal Christmas tradition and celebrate Christmas at Sandringham House then celebrate at a later date with the Middletons,” Kate’s family.
Royal Family News – The Cambridge’s Are Thoughtful
Their thoughtfulness is no doubt doubly appreciated in a year that saw the queen lose her husband of 73 years in April. Prince Philip was 99 years old and the queen will miss her loved one in a huge way as she marks the holidays without her “rock.”
Katie said, “In the early years of being a family, they did try to alternate Christmas, one year with The Queen and the Royal Family and the next year with the Middletons, but Kate and William put duty before self and we can see that, more now than ever.”
She added, “So there is a sacrifice on Kate’s part because Christmas is a very big thing for the Middleton family, but they put The Queen first and make sure they are there on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day at Sandringham.”

But as Katie noted, there is an upside to celebrating multiple Christmas’s: “it’s probably a lot of fun for the Cambridge children that they get to celebrate Christmas twice – once with their great-grandmother and the Royal Family and then again with the Middleton’s at their Bucklebury home.” What kid wouldn’t love to have multiple present-opening days?
Katie spilled a bit of dish by saying that George and Charlotte, “will be asking Father Christmas for gadgets and toys as the young royals are quite ‘tech-savvy.’”

She went on to say of the Cambridge kids, “George enjoys his iPad at school, both he and Charlotte are quite tech-savvy and, like most children, there probably are technical gadgets and such like on their wish list.”
“I’m sure they’re not going to want for anything, but when it comes to technology and screens, they are careful not to spoil them with extravagant gifting,” said Katie.
Meanwhile Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, look set to stay put in California this Christmas with some royal experts claiming that, “Prince Harry will ‘regret’ burning his bridges with his family this Christmas.”
