British royal family news reveals that being the future king of England puts a target on one’s back. Just ask Prince Charles who apparently has gone to great measures to ensure his safety so that he indeed one day makes it to the throne.
Keep reading and we’ll break down for you exactly what lengths Charles has gone to in order to protect himself against harm.
Prince Charles Is Not Taking Chances
Prince Charles of Wales reportedly has a state-of-the-art panic room installed at his Highgrove House residence. According to reports, it is a steel structure that has been put in place at his Gloucestershire home in order to keep him and his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, safe.
Theoretically, they could enter the safe room if anyone threatening entered the property or if there were a breach of security.
The structure is described as a 20ft by 20ft room that is strong enough to withstand an airstrike or a terrorist attack. One thing it cannot protect Prince Charles against is his defiant son Harry’s terrible mouth.
Royal Family News: Prince Charles Has a Safe Room
Author Brian Hoey revealed the details of the safe room in his book Not in Front of the Corgis. According to him, the composition of the panic room is so heavy-duty solid that it would stay standing even if the rest of the house was decimated.
He wrote, “It has been so built that even if the rest of the house is destroyed, it will drop intact to the ground floor.”
Prince Charles Is Well Protected
Hoey also claims that the room is far from empty. He writes that the room is stocked with enough provisions to keep Prince Charles and Camilla alive for weeks.
“Inside are medical supplies, including containers of Charles and Camilla’s blood group, long-lasting food and drinks, an armoury, radio transmitters equipped to obtain a signal even within its steel walls, air purifiers, and chemical lavatories.”

The room was reportedly made after Prince Charles’ uncle Louis Mountbatten was killed by the IRA in 1979. This heinous deed made Charles aware of the need for the safety of his family which at the time included Princess of Wales and young sons Prince William and Prince Harry.
There was a famous security breach in 1982 at Buckingham Palace. At the time Charles’ mother Queen Elizabeth came face to face with an intruder who jumped a huge wall and came into her bedroom. She pressed a panic button and stalled the perp until security arrived. Is there anything she can’t do?

A safe room is a good idea, especially for high profile people. Thank goodness the queen was safe.
