Royal Family News: Why Kate Middleton Tried To Change Her Name

Kate Middleton British royal family news teases that Shakespeare asked the immortal question, ‘what’s in a name?’ Perhaps Kate Middleton was reacting to this rhetorical question when she reportedly made a name game request of her own.

Kate is known as the Duchess of Cambridge and one day she will be known as queen consort. The royals are big on fancy pants names, with titles like Lord and Lady, Duchess and Sir handed out left and right. So, a name tweak here or there is not uncommon if one happens to be born in the land of Dukes and Earls.

But it may come as a surprise that even before Kate was engaged to Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, she was already toying with her moniker.

According to the Mirror, the Sunday Express reported that, “With Prince William’s engagement now a surefire certainty (even Ladbrokes [a British betting company] has stopped taking bets on whether it will happen after a flurry of well-placed wagers) there are intriguing signs that Kate Middleton is preparing for her future role.

“It looks like she’s taking it very seriously indeed too. I hear that in the past few weeks the former accessories buyer has quietly informed friends that she would like to drop the informal ‘Kate’ and in future wishes to be known by her full name: ‘Catherine.'”

Well, La-Di-Dah. And By The Way, What Is Wrong With, ‘Cathy?’

Royal Family News: Kate is Married to Prince William

The article noted that Middleton’s friends were, “a little taken aback” by the ask. Apparently a friend of Middleton’s stated, “Everyone knows it’s about to happen with Kate and William, but we were a little surprised about the request to call her Catherine. There is a distinct feeling she has started to become very aware of her position”

I suppose this matter could be looked at in one of two ways. On the one hand Kate, sorry, Catherine, could be considered a supreme planner who takes care of all the little details. Maybe she was just paving the way for the inevitable?

On the other hand, Catherine, who married Prince William in 2011, might be accused of putting the cart before the horse if things had turned out differently. Was her ask presumptuous or practical? Tell us what you think!
