British royal family news reveals that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s daughter Lilibet turned one this month. Horror of horrors, the public could have been pronouncing her name all wrong for 12 months. It’s no secret that the name is supposed to honor Queen Elizabeth. Lilibet was her nickname and used only by the closest of family members. The Markle’s raised eyebrows when they announced they had used the name, then declaring the girl would be called Lili.

Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana Mountbatten-Windsor was born on June 4 and is the couple’s second child, after 3-year-old Archie.

According to Women’s Health, the way the name is pronounced is probably not how you have been doing. C’mon, fess up, you’ve been saying “Lil-a-bet,” haven’t you? Well, that is wrong sorry to say. According to the outlet the proper way to pronounce the name is “Lily-bet.”

Royal Family News – Lilibet Is Named After Family

Young Lilibet’s name was inspired by Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, whose family nickname was Lilibet. Reports indicate that when the queen was still a tot, she was not able to pronounce her name very well and the outcome was what sounded like ‘Lilibet’ instead of Elizabeth.

The Queen met her great-granddaughter and namesake for the first time during her Platinum Jubilee earlier this month.

Royal expert Jonathan Sacerdoti told US Weekly of the historic meet-up: “She was working very hard to maintain her strength. “I think it’s totally understandable that she was saving her energy as best she could for all the events that she wanted to be at if she possibly could.”

He added, “We’re talking about someone in their nineties and a baby. We saw that she did manage to appear several times in public, and that’s great.”

The Markle’s had a birthday party at Frogmore Cottage for Lili on June 4. An inside source told The Sun, “It was a lovely do and had everything you’d expect from a child’s birthday party. But there was no formal entertainment. The idea was for it to be very relaxed and casual, with people free to pop in and out as they wished.”
