Back in June, Sarah announced that she was diagnosed with breast cancer. The news shocked her fans. She found out about her breast cancer following a routine mammogram.

Sarah does say that her breast cancer diagnosis did change her outlook on her life and her own self for the better. She wakes up each morning with a better appreciation for what she has.

In her new podcast, Tea Talks, Fergie opened up about how awful she often felt about herself whenever the media would compare her to her sister-in-law, Princess Diana.

The Duchess of York put it this way, “Not because of seeing death but waking up to stop worrying, stop self-hatred, stop self-doubt, stop all these things. Stop not liking yourself. When I look back, I was OK, I’ve got good legs but I didn’t like myself and that was because, I think, I was always compared to Diana. And I think that at the end, I believed my own press which is, you know, not too good.”

Believe it or not, Sarah says that it wasn’t until she was diagnosed with breast cancer and had her mastectomy that she started to feel better about herself and her body.

Speaking about the rollercoaster of emotions that she went through while losing a part of her body, Fergie said, “You’ve got an enormous scar, but you like yourself. You’ve got a badge of office, you just are what you are, and… of course, the last thing that the Queen said to me [was] ‘Just be yourself, Sarah.’”
