British royal family news reveals that in season 6 of Netflix’s drama, The Crown, the streamer shows a mind-boggling scene that takes place between Kate Middleton and Princess Diana.

Did they engage in a little bit of artistic license with the scene or did Netflix do some serious rewriting of history? You decide, here is the truth about Princess Kate meeting Princess Diana.

Royal Family News – Did Kate Meet Diana?

The final season of The Crown introduces the audience to mother-of-three Kate Middleton, the wife of Prince WIilliam.

Actress Meg Bellamy portrays Kate, who will one day be queen, and Ed McVey portrays Prince William. The two met in college and in the name of dynamic storytelling, Netflix takes a few liberties with royal history.

For example, in season 6, episode 7 titled “Alma Mater” a flashback scene occurs from a day in December 1996 just a few months before Diana’s death in a Paris car accident.

In the scene Elizabeth Debicki stars as Diana and she is shown selling The Big Issue magazine along with Prince William. At the same time Kate and her mother, Carole Middleton, portrayed by Eve Best, are depicted holiday shopping.

At one point Kate buys the magazine from Diana who asks her her name. Next up Diana tells William, “Say thank you to Kate.” Later Kate is shown cutting out magazine photos of William to put on her bedroom wall. Did any of this really happen? What do you think?

The sad truth is that the future queen of England never had the chance to meet William’s mother. The Crown invented that scene, and it does make for some dramatic storytelling.

Both Kate and William have spoken about the former not knowing her mother-in-law. According to William, his 2011 marriage was “very difficult … It’s the one time since she’s died, where I’ve … thought to myself it would be fantastic if she was here, and just how sad really for her, more than anything, not being able to see it.”

Later, during a visit to Wales, Kate told on-lookers that she did not resize Diana’s famous blue sapphire engagement ring she wears: “Same ring … And exactly the same — the same size.”
