Was Camilla Parker Bowles Meghan Markle’s Only Friend At The Palace?

Written by co-authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durant, there were few people who were willing to show Meghan the ropes of royal life, including her very reluctant sister-in-law, Kate Middleton. In fact, the book suggests that both Prince William and his wife had their reservations about Meghan and for the most part, kept their distance. If that weren’t enough, reports have also indicated that the staff at Buckingham Palace couldn’t keep up with Meghan’s vigorous work ethic while others apparently leaked things to the press that seemingly hurt the Duchess’ reputation with the public.

However, if there is one person that might have quietly been on Meghan’s side, it could have been Camilla Parker Bowles. While Prince Charles was said to be fond of his new, charming daughter-in-law, Finding Freedom doesn’t suggest that anything happened between Camilla and Meghan. In fact, in the few royal engagements that they appeared in together, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duchess of Sussex seemed to have gotten along naturally well.

Of course, there might be a good reason why Camilla wanted to be more of a friend than a foe. That’s because as an outsider, she knows just how hard it is to try and ‘fit in’ behind the scenes. Even though Kate Middleton kept her distance from Meghan simply because the two women had very little in common, at least Camilla wasn’t trying to make Meghan’s life harder than what it already was. After all, Camilla is one member of the monarchy that knows the value of a solid royal friendship.
