British royal family news reveals that Meghan Markle is never too timid to put her hands on her second husband, Prince Harry, in public. In fact, her signature handsiness has been given a name: “The Claw.”
It’s rare to see poor Harry without his duchess steering him this way and that, and some fans think her style is domineering as well as mothering. Here is what one body language expert has to say about Meghan’s “love language.”

Judi James thinks that Meghan’s signature moves, like the “double clutch” is a “gesture of ownership.”
Similarly, the Daily Mail notes that “Meghan is also a fan of putting her hand on Harry’s knee, a ‘sensual’ move that Ms James said is another ‘signal of ownership’ and display of ‘physical attraction.’”

James adds that Meghan’s ever-present hand on Harry’s back is a “possible maternal gesture.” One of the first times she deployed the maneuver was in 2018 on the Buckingham Palace balcony after watching the RAF flyover.
But not everyone is a fan of Meghan’s love language. One poster noted: “given her need for public attention, She comes across desperate to look like they are so connected- although he doesn’t seem to ever reciprocate.”
Another person wrote “It is obvious she is controlling him. Another bad aspect of this constant pawing and clinging is the signal it sends out, we only need each other, we are one. In company this makes other people uncomfortable as if they are unapproachable with an impenetrable screen around them.”
Meghan Is All Smiles In Public
As for The Claw on Harry’s back, James said “It’s a steering gesture that suggests that once he was in the US she was acting in the role of host and even leader if she used it to introduce him to other people.”
James also mentions the “double clutch” a gesture that takes place when Meghan grips her husband’s arm and hand simultaneously.
According to James, Meghan introduced this move during their 2017 engagement announcement: “it had and still has a multi-media message purpose. This extra clingy clutch shows a desire to keep Harry close.”
James differentiated the double clutch from a simple arm grab: “Meghan’s clutch on his bicep shows a surrendered approval of his manliness and strength” which “allows her to remain part of the double act.”

Then there is the “hand sandwich.” In this familiar act, “Meghan uses both of her hands to hold one of Harry’s in another double clasp gesture … giving them a ‘romantic couple’ appearance.”
As so many others have, James also compared the Markles to the former King Edward VIII and his divorcee wife Wallis Simpson: “Like Edward and Wallis there is a tendency to define and re-define their ongoing closeness and devotion to keep letting everyone know this was not a mistake.”
