Why Won’t King Charles And Prince Harry Reconcile Already?

Last month, Prince Harry publicly expressed his desire to reconcile with his family, especially his father King Charles, who he doesn’t “know how much longer” he has.

And while we know the obvious reasons why Charles might be reluctant to end the feud – ‘Spare,’ Netflix docuseries ‘Harry and Meghan,’ Oprah tell-all, among others – is that the only reason the monarch has chosen to cut communications with his youngest son?

Expert Thinks King Charles Should Make First Move Towards Reconciling With Harry

Frankly, a lot of families go through different disputes, but the Royal Family’s is sort of like the only one that makes frontline news.

Not least because Harry and Meghan may have dramatized everything when they chose to give TV interviews exposing their discontent towards the Royal Family.

Even now that Harry is looking forward to fixing it, he tells the media, rather than making a conscious effort to settle things privately. His words to BBC were as follows, “I don’t know how much longer my father has… He won’t speak to me.”

According to royal author Valentine Low, the way Harry phrased his reconciliation message can be easily translated as an attack. “It wasn’t meant to be an attack, but it would be seen as one,” Low, who is in the process of releasing his upcoming book, ‘Power and the Palace,’ told PEOPLE. “It makes Charles reaching out even harder.”

Insisting that Charles should be the first to make contact, Low added, “There is not a good angel in his ear to say, ‘Be a good dad and make the first move.’”

Well, things aren’t as easy as that, as, according to biographer Sally Bedell Smith, “the underlying issue is trust.”

She explained: “The King and William don’t trust Harry and Meghan with any kind of confidential conversation.”

King Charles Likely To Invite Prince Harry Over For Talks In Due Time

Catherine Mayer, author of ‘Charles: The Heart of a King,’ further weighed in on the issue, noting that one meeting won’t be enough to conclude the peace talks.

“There is so much baggage there that the idea that one meeting would resolve everything is ridiculous. But having some contact would seem better than none. If you have that level of breach in a family, and you are estranged, you run that risk every day of having something unfathomable to deal with,” Mayer said.

Another royal expert revealed that King Charles is bound to make contact with Harry in due time.
