Of course, Prince Charles will become king when Queen Elizabeth II finally leaves this existence. Everyone knows that. However, the question many fans of the British Royal family are debating amongst themselves is what title, if any, will Prince Charles’s wife, Camilla take?
Those who are paying attention know that at the moment, Camilla’s title is “The Duchess of Cornwall.” Apparently, however, when Camilla married Prince Charles on April 9, 2005 many believed that her new title when Charles becomes king would be “Princess Consort.” However, that theory has been dashed to pieces as Royal experts explained that according to the law, Camilla will, in fact, become the Queen of England. Whether people actually think of Camilla in those terms, however, is a different question altogether.
Royal Family Updates: Will Camilla Parker Bowles Be Queen?
Interestingly, a poll recently showed that when Queen Elizabeth dies, many would prefer for Prince Charles and Camilla to simply step aside in favor of allowing Prince William and Kate Middleton to ascend the throne. Of course, those who have been around a while know that this would literally be a vicious high five by Millennials to Prince Charles and Camilla to the face … with a chair.
That’s because while Camilla may never have aspired to become the Queen of England, Prince Charles who is 72 years old has been waiting to gain the throne for a great deal of time. Royal fans ought to remember (especially the young whippersnappers) that Charles couldn’t marry whom he wanted when he was younger precisely because he was next in line to become king. These younger fans of the royals ought to consider what it’s like not to be able to be in a relationship with the one you love … or what it might be like to be forced into a “proper” relationship according to royal standards the way Charles was.
Perhaps they wouldn’t be so hasty or so willing to ditch Prince Charles and promote Prince William. After all, who knows what else Prince Charles and probably Camilla too had to give up over the course of their lives until this very moment … just to maintain appearances?
Regardless of all that, the question remains … should Camilla actually use the title of Queen? Some say yes, because that will reflect legal reality. Camilla will be Queen of England … that will be the fact on the ground. Nothing anyone says or does in Great Britain will change that (unless someone changes the law to spite Prince Charles, of course).

Camilla Parker Bowles Doesn’t Poll Well – Royal Family News
Others feel that in spite of the law, Camilla would do well to fade into the background. Camilla should minimize her presence in Buckingham palace as much as possible since they don’t believe that the vast majority of British citizens will accept her as their queen under any circumstances. The masses just won’t love Camilla the way they do Queen Elizabeth now or the way they loved Princess Diana years ago.
The bottom line is that how Camilla chooses to present herself to the people of Great Britain when Prince Charles becomes king is actually up to Charles and Camilla … and the people of the U.K. should really learn to respect that. After all … why bother to have a king at all if his wishes and word are not to be respected?

Queen Elizabeth could have made her husband king but never did. Same issue is likely true for Charles with respect to Camilla.
