British royal family news reveals a curious tie between Ellen DeGeneres and a member of the royal clan. Not just any member either: a senior, working royal. Who will one day be queen.

That’s right, the former talk show host is related to Catherine, Princess of Wales.

Before she left the airwaves after a series of controversies, DeGeneres filled in fans on her connection to Kate.

Apparently she received a letter from the New England Genealogical Society. The letter indicated that the group was “working to trace Kate Middleton’s ancestry.”

According to The List, DeGeneres read part of the letter on the air: “As we were doing the research, we discovered that you’re related to Kate via a man named Sir Thomas Fairfax and his wife, Agnes Gascoigne. You are distant cousins. You’re 15th, but cousins still the same.'”

This tidbit came out before Kate and William were married so Ellen took that moment to try and wrangle a wedding invitation!

Royal Family News – Ellen DeGeneres Is Related To Kate

We don’t know if Kate was watching that day, but we can tell you that Ellen was a no-show at the lavish royal wedding.

According to the outlet, Ellen and her wife Portia de Rossi watched the regal nuptials together at home.

And later that same day she kept up the yucks, talking about the wedding to her audience: “And, you know, since I’m cousins, I’m 15th cousins with Kate, that means that today I become royalty.”

Last week the palace announced that Kate was in the hospital following an “abdominal surgery.” No other details were given except that she would remain there for 10-14 days.

It was also reported that the mother of three will not return to public engagements until the springtime. The same day it was reported that King Charles will soon have prostate surgery.

The news was concerning for royal fans, especially given the fact that two senior royals will be out of commission due to health issues.

Kate was last seen in public on Christmas day when she attended a church service with her family.
