Chicago Med Installs Revolving Door: Two Actresses Depart As Two New Stars Enter!

Like so many TV shows, Chicago Med has seen actors come and go each season.

But Chicago Med viewers felt shocked when two extremely popular actresses exited the show at the very end of last season.

Talented stars Yaya DaCosta and Torrey DeVitto both departed the show following the finale of season 6. That means that when Chicago Med premieres season 7 this fall, their roles of Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey) and April Sexton (Yaya) will be written out.

Viewers empathized with these characters, leaving Chicago Med writers with the challenge of finding new cast members with similarly empathetic characteristics. But they might have already found them, based on the clues about the new stars joining Chicago Med.

Both portraying doctors, actors Guy Lockard and Kristen Hager will become Chicago Med series regulars starting this fall. . Lockard will portray Dr. Dylan Scott, who left a career as a Chicago police officer to become a doctor. Whether the doctor has any connections to characters in Chicago P.D. is as yet unknown. Hager plays Dr. Stevie Hammer, a brilliant and scrappy emergency room attending physician.

Steven Weber Wins Even Before Chicago Med’s New Season Debuts!

Chicago Med actor Steven Weber can stop worrying about job security, at least for now.

NBC executives have decided to favor Dr. Dean Archer for season 7 of Chicago Med, per Deadline. The decision occurred after Dr. Archer succeeded in his power play and got promoted to the position of Emergency Department interim chief.

Reflecting on Dr. Archer, Steven Weber told TV Insider that his Chicago Med character is “really good at what he does.” However, Dr. Archer “might not be good at healing himself,” added the actor.

Future episodes of Chicago Med could show more about Dr. Archer’s past, hinted Weber. When Archer and Dr. Ethan Choi (portrayed by Brian Tee) were in the Navy, “he taught Ethan a lot of what he has become expert at,” noted Weber.

That shared past could lead the way for flashbacks to Choi’s and Archer’s Navy experience, particularly if writers can tie it in with patient situations at the medical center. But don’t look for stereotypes about Navy men, added Weber.

“These people aren’t stereotypes and they carry their pasts with them,” pointed out Weber. “Despite Dean and Ethan’s ability to move on past their service, there might be hints of some PTSD. In Dean at least, there might be some issues that maybe go a little deeper in terms of his self-identity.”

And while Dr. Archer clearly possesses medical skills, “he may be a bit of a dinosaur in this new world,” warned the actor. “He’s still very good at what he does. He still is an excellent and intuitive surgeon, but he might be a bit out of fashion, and that’s starting to become apparent.”

As a result of these changes, we can’t wait for September 22, 2021! That’s the date when the entire Chicago line-up will return to NBC. Look for Chicago Med to take on the anchor role at 8 pm.
