Squerciati shared that she was worried that her new storyline would eventually lead to her exit. The show’s producers reassured her that she’s not going anywhere. She’s also grateful to have viewers who are interested to see what happens to her character the following season.
She may have been reassured that she’s not leaving the show but the actress understands that there’s always that possibility given that she’s part of a show with guns.
“It’s like a Chekov play. The gun is introduced at the beginning of the play, it’s going to get used in act two, right? It’s always a danger,” she explained.
Chicago P.D. Spoilers – Kim Burgess Brutal Recovery
In a recent episode, Burgess was a mess as she undergoes a brutal recovery. It was obvious that she had PTSD. She’s not ready to return to work and she wasn’t in the mood when Adam Ruzek (Patrick Flueger) tried to ask for her help with a case.
Squerciati noted that they haven’t had anybody who suffered such a brutal experience. Her alter ego was left not only with physical trauma but mental strain as well. Her situation becomes more complicated because she’s got a child to care for, someone who’s gone through the same thing. Now, Burgess has to find a way to deal with her pain while putting up a good front for her child.
She has named Ruzek as her child’s guardian and he’s been trying to help her in any way possible. Burgess may be hesitant to accept his help at first but she knows that she needs it now more than ever. She doesn’t want Hank Voight [Jason Beghe] to see her broken so she’ll be relying on Ruzek’s assistance.
