However, nothing seems to be on the pipeline. The network is trying to find the perfect idea so they could do justice to the original show. For now, the showrunners at Fox Broadcasting Company, 20th Century Fox Television, and Imagine TV are still working on creating a new concept.

After the series ended in 2010, producer Brian Grazer worked tried to work on a “24” movie for two years. Unfortunately, they didn’t have the funds and they couldn’t find the right location and story for it.

24: Live Another Day

In 2013, Kiefer Sutherland reprised his role as Jack Bauer in a limited revival called “24: Live Another Day.” It aired the following year and earned solid reviews and ratings. However, since it was billed as an “event series,” it only lasted for 12 episodes.

In 2016, the “24: Legacy” spinoff series was announced. The spinoff had an all-new cast and had 12 episodes. The show had excellent ratings following the Super Bowl LI in 2017 but their ratings dropped a few weeks later. The show ended after only one season.

Other Ideas Scrapped

A few other ideas came up over the years including a prequel series that tackles the origin of Jack Bauer. But in 2019, none of the new concepts including the prequel did make it to the pilot stage.

“The power of these franchises is not to be toyed with, and 24 was an iconic moment in television, and when and if we bring it back, it will be because the creators and writers feel like they have the right story to tell, they can honor the franchise and the studio and the network feel the same way,” Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier said.

Fox Entertainment President Michael Thorn hinted that the network is eyeing two new ideas but it’s nothing formal yet. Unfortunately, it’s been announced that the most recent projects have been abandoned.

But Thorn reassured viewers that they are constantly looking at other opportunities to keep the title resonant, for us and the fans.
