Jon Voight was appointed as a “special ambassador” to Hollywood. The initiative aimed to revitalize the film industry in the United States. Now, it seems that he’s finally kick-started the project ahead of Sylvester Stallone and Mel Gibson.
Developing Trump’s Hollywood Boost
The idea to boost Hollywood back to its glory days in the face of other countries competing for movie sets arose when Donald Trump floated the idea as the president-elect. Voight, along with Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone, were appointed to encourage more film and television production to return to the U.S.

Jon Voight has reportedly taken this role seriously, engaging in meetings with union representatives and studio executives to understand the challenges facing domestic production. Deadline reported on May 2 that a potential strategy being explored is the implementation of “federal tax” incentives to encourage productions to remain in the United States.
What Is Voight Actually Doing?
It doesn’t seem as if much progress has been made, but at least Voight is starting to do something. The outlet reported that “Jon Voight has been taking meetings around town with union reps and studio executives to understand the issues plaguing domestic production.”
According to sources, meetings took place between Donald Trump’s representative and “the Directors Guild of America, Teamsters, and IATSE.” However, the “Writers Guild of America has not met with Voight.” At the same time, there’s no clear-cut news that he met “with AG-AFTRA.”
Hollywood Between A Rock & A Hard Place?
Most of the personalities in Hollywood came out on the side of Kamala Harris during the election campaign. So, they might not be all that interested in engaging with Trump’s idea of a revamp. However, production stateside is down. In fact, compared to previous eras, it seems a bit dismal.
More often these days, movies are filmed in Canada, Hungary, the UK, and New Zealand. Heart of the Beast, starring Brad Pitt, comes to mind. It seems that self-preservation, if nothing else, will keep executives in the entertainment industry talking. For now, time will tell if Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone step up and start doing anything concrete to get the project off the ground.
Will Hollywood Engage With Mel?
Widely reported events caused Mel’s standing in Hollywood to diminish considerably over the years. Anti-Semitism and a DUI caused scandals, and not everyone wants to work with him. Actually, it seems that his past behavior had a lasting negative effect on his reputation within the Hollywood community.

Meanwhile, Sylvester doesn’t have a stellar rep either. Time will tell if Jon Voight can throw the entertainment industry a lifeline.
