Rumors that Netflix will create a sequel for One Tree Hill have been around for a while, and now, it seems that things are well-advanced for it to actually happen. The sequel starts two decades after where it left off, and according to Deadline, Hilarie Burton and Sophia Bush return to the screen as well as acting as producers for the show.
Netflix Is A Lifeline For Many shows
The streaming service seems to be a lifeline for many people, which completely explains why Christley Know’s Best alum Lindsie Chrisley is rumored to be looking to them for a special following the imprisonment of Todd and Julie Chrisley for fraud and tax-related crimes.
Even the likes of Ellen DeGeneres who was vilified and bashed by viewers managed a series with them, which might be her last swan song. But, she got some mileage out of Netflix before her rumored retirement. Word is that she might even consider moving to Africa to be more productive with the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund training center that she started in Rwanda.
One Tree Hill Returns?
After nine seasons of the WB/CW show, fans hoped for more, and Deadline reported that it’s looking more likely by the day that a sequel will happen. While Chad Michael Murray isn’t in the sequel, it’s believed that Danneel Ackles will return and also be involved in production.
The new series on Netflix will feature “best friends Brooke and Peyton who are now parents to teens and facing challenges not unfamiliar to what they tackled in the original series like love, insecurities, and grief.”
Not Yet Gotten The Green Light?
It is seldom that Deadline gets things wrong when it comes to news about programs and shows for the streaming giant. So, although the green light hasn’t yet flashed it seems positive that at least some of the former actors are in talks for reprising roles. However, Chad Michael Murray seems unlikely to return.
Neither will “One Tree Hill creator Schwahn, who served as executive producer and showrunner on the original series.” So, it looks like the main female characters, Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton will run with the Netflix sequel. They are set to reprise their roles as Brooke Davis and Peyton Sawyer.
The major problem at the moment is that despite positive reports arriving about a sequel for One Tree Hill, Netflix and “reps for …WBTV declined to comment on [the] story.” Still, sometimes that points to a positive in itself.
