One Day at a Time finally has a premiere date. Pop TV acquired the canceled Netflix series. The Alvarez family will be making a return to television when Season 4 of One Day at a Time premieres in March 2020. The announcement was made at Vulture Festival on Sunday, Nov. 10. Pop TV announced that 13 episodes of the series will premiere on the network after it was canceled by Netflix earlier this year.
The One Day at a Time panel featured executive producers Brent Miller and Norman Lear, showrunners Gloria Calderón Kellett and Mike Royce, as well as cast members Rita Moreno, Justina Machado, Isabella Gomez, Marcel Ruiz, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Todd Grinnell, according to the PopCulture.TV report.
In addition, Kellet also addressed the changes that viewers will see in the upcoming season. Unlike on Netflix, when the platform drops all episodes of the series at once, Season 4 will be rolled out on a weekly basis.
Kellet said that everyone is excited about this fresh new format. They hope that the weekly sitcom will encourage more audience engagement. The panel also revealed that the series will run a traditional sitcom format and runtime. That means fans will have to sit through commercials.
One Day at a Time debuted on Netflix in January 2017 and was canceled in March of this year after three seasons. The news sparked backlash with Netflix and its hasty decision to cancel many of its original shows.
Fans even created online petitions in an effort for the series to be saved. Back in June, Pop TV announced that it acquired the series for a fourth season. This is the first time that a cable network has saved a canceled series that was originally on a streaming platform.
