Study: 66% Of Americans Plan to Subscribe to Disney+

Disney+ is launching in less than a week and it seems like the streaming service is already picking up steam. It seems like a day doesn’t go by when you don’t hear something new about the platform. On Wednesday, Nov. 6, Disney revealed that it will show ads to subscribers in a deal with Starz. Disney has also been unveiling what kind of contact its subscribers can look forward to.

It’s expected to have an impressive selection of content, ranging from Star Wars to Marvel movies. Earlier this year, Disney even struck out a deal with Fox. The company giant revealed that it would provide a wide variety of content that could include 300 movies and 7,000 television episodes on launch day. Disney+ will also feature many Marvel and Star Wars movies and television shows, including the highly-anticipated The Mandalorian. Disney also promised it, subscribers, that they can select a bundle with Hulu and ESPN+, which would be free of ads.

Disney has since backtracked on those statements. According to a report via The Verge, Disney+ subscribers will see ads for Starz upon sign-in. That’s because Starz still has rights to some of Disney’s live-action films, including Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Disney has agreed for Starz to run ads on Disney+ in a licensing deal that would allow The Force Awakens to be available on launch day. But these ads are not expected to be intrusive and will display an advertisement only on the login pages. Disney+ has no intention to run ads within the streaming platform itself.

A study has revealed that two-thirds of Americans plan to subscribe to the streaming service. Four hundred Americans were surveyed by HighSpeedInternet.com about streaming services. They were asked if they would subscribe to Disney+ and similar services. Around 66% of Americans revealed they plan to subscribe to the platform, while 60% said they would rather use Netflix. In addition, 63% of Americans revealed that they would keep their current Netflix subscription and don’t have intentions of trying Disney+.

What prompted the 66% of Americans to subscribe to Disney+? Sixty percent of Americans said that both the Marvel and Star Wars films influenced their decision to subscribe to the streaming service. Disney also has Disney, National Geographic, and Pixar content. There is something for everyone on this new service. Disney also owns Fox properties, which includes Avatar and The Simpsons. Disney+ is expected to launch on Nov. 12.
