The Good Doctor Season 4 Spoilers: Freddie Highmore Says Melendez Could Return, Here’s How

The Good Doctor: Freddie Highmore (Dr. Shaun Murphy) ABC The Good Doctor season 4 spoilers reveal that there will be a few cast members missing. One is Jasika Nicole, who played Dr. Carly Lever. The other is Nicholas Gonzalez, who portrayed Dr. Neil Melendez. During a recent Comic-Con event, Freddie Highmore (Dr. Shaun Murphy) teased that Melendez could return. Here’s how it could happen.

Nicholas Gonzalez’ Exit

During the two-part season 3 finale, it was chaos and catastrophe as a massive earthquake rocked the city. There were a lot of victims, many injuries, and some unexpected revelations. There was also a death, which was Dr. Melendez’s. He passed away from injuries sustained during the natural disaster.

Dr. Neil Melendez’ Presence Will Be Felt

The Good Doctor season 4 spoilers reveal that Melendez might be gone, but he certainly won’t be forgotten. Highmore discussed the possibilities at the New York Comic-Con.

“It’s a loss that will be felt across the entire hospital. [But] I’d like to stay hopeful that even though Dr Melendez is no longer with us on the show, he will still be very much a part of it. His presence will still be felt, and maybe we’ll get to see him again at some point. You never know.”

How He Could Return

Now, the dead can’t be brought back to life, at least not on a realistic medical series like The Good Doctor. However, there are other ways that he could make an appearance. Some of these include looking back at memories, talking about Melendez after he’s gone, flashbacks, dreams, or even through Dr. Murphy.

We’ve seen the autistic medical student visualize the inside of human bodies, so he could probably just as easily visualize Melendez. Perhaps remembering something he said or an event that happened with another patient.

What Else To Expect

It was confirmed that the two-part season 4 premiere will focus on the COVID-19 pandemic. This seems logical since it is a medical TV show. However, it will not take center stage for the rest of the season. We might see references to it or see the safety precautions being taken. We’ll even see the staff face certain challenges because of it, but that’s about as far as it will go.
