Elisabeth Moss, the Emmy-winning star of Hulu’s hit series The Handmaid’s Tale, will direct Season 4. The Handmaid’s Tale is based on the novel of the same name by Margaret Atwood. It centers around Moss’s character, June, who lives in a dystopian totalitarian version of the U.S. that took away women’s independence. The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4 also stars Ann Dowd (The Leftovers), Joseph Fiennes (Shakespeare in Love), and Yvonne Strahovski (Dexter).

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Moss is the executive producer of the series. She will also serve as director for the third episode of the fourth season. This episode will be Moss’s directorial debut. The Handmaid’s Tale just went into production this week. Moss talked about her directorial debut, saying she “can’t wait to try my hand at working with my collaborators from this new perspective.”

Bruce Miller (Eureka) serves as executive producer and showrunner of the show. He is supportive of Moss’s directing debut. He says that Moss “has fostered a supportive environment that allows artists to do their best work” and that she “is now benefiting from this incredibly generous and ambitious atmosphere she helped create.” Fans of The Handmaid’s Tale and Moss’s work will look forward to seeing what she brings to Season 4 of the series.

Atwood released the sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale called The Testaments. This new novel is set 15 years after The Handmaid’s Tale and is narrated by three characters, including Aunt Lydia. Moss also starred in The Invisible Man, which became a box office hit. It’s also loosely based on a novel of the same name. Moss’s fans will get to see her directorial debut when The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4 premieres later this year on Hulu.
