Fans of The Office still have some time to watch their favorite show before it arrives to NBC’s new streaming platform. The popular sitcom is in syndication until 2025. The Office is an American adaptation of the British comedy of the same name. The series includes an ensemble cast, including Steve Carrell as Michael Scott, John Krakinski as Jim Halpert, B.J. Novak as Ryan Howard, Mindy Kaling as Kelly, Jenna Fischer as Pam Beesly, and Rainn Wilson as Dwight Schrute.
The Office ran on NBC for nine successful seasons and a total of 201 episodes. In 2013, the show rolled out its two-part finale, which attracted over 5.5 million viewers. The Office has become a cult classic ever since it ended. It’s still popular as ever thanks to its limited availability on Netflix. In addition, Viacom has just announced extended syndication for the next six years, according to Variety.
Viacom just reached a deal with NBCUniversal in effort to have all nine seasons of The Office air on Comedy Central until 2021. Then it will air episodes through other Viacom Media Networks well into 2025. Parks and Recreation, another cult classic sitcom, will air on Comedy Central until 2024. Tanya Giles, the general manager of Comedy Central, Paramount Network, and TV Land made this exciting announcement on Monday, Nov. 18.
Earlier this year, it was mentioned that The Office will leave Netflix and other streaming services in lieu of NBC’s upcoming streaming platform, Peacock. The Office will be available on Netflix until October 2020, while episodes of Parks and Recreation will be available until January 2021. Both shows will then be available for streaming on Peacock. Those who don’t subscribe to NBC’s new streaming platform will still be able to watch both shows on cable TV.

In addition, other popular sitcoms such as Friends and The Big Bang Theory will move to HBO Max next year. This comes in lieu of the streaming wars with networks launching their own streaming platforms. It makes sense for networks to want to retain ownership of their television shows and movies. They also want to make them available all within the same library of content. As a result, Viacom wanted to cut a deal with NBC and have both The Office and Parks and Recreation available on both Comedy Central and its other sister networks.
So, binge-watch those episodes of The Office while you can. What are your thoughts on this announcement? Will you check out NBC’s new streaming platform to get your Office fix? Or, will you continue to watch syndications of the show on TV? Sound off below in the comments section.
