The View: Co-Hosts Joy Behar And Whoopi Goldberg Defends Kelly Clarkson Weight Loss Backlash

The “Since You Been Gone” singer Kelly Clarkson has somehow become a talk show “The View’s” treasure that needs to be protected at all costs by the co-hosts of the show. During a recent interview on her eponymous show “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” Kelly admitted to guest Whoopi Goldberg that the secret behind her weight loss was a weight loss drug which she withheld its name.

Although she didn’t share the name of the weight loss drug she used, she assured viewers that it’s not Ozempic. “Everybody thinks it’s Ozempic — it’s not — it’s something else, but it’s something that aids in helping break down the sugar. Obviously, my body doesn’t do it right,” said Kelly. After her revelation, the ” American Idol” season 1 winner came under fire for previously saying that she lost weight through walking.

On Wednesday’s episode of “The View,” co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Farah Griffin, Sara Haines, etc., weighed in on the topic.

Whoopi, 68, shared her opinion on the backlash Kelly has been receiving since she revealed her weight loss secret.

The “Sister Act” star said, “Kelly is getting backlash over this from people who say she previously claimed she was losing weight by walking, but here’s a point about that. A lot of people are taking the shot because they need it … There’s lots of reasons.”

She continued, “She has been walking, but this has helped. They kick her behind when she’s bigger, they kick her behind when she’s lost the weight and now they’re kicking her behind because she said it out loud. Maybe she was more comfortable hearing somebody say that’s what I did.”

Co-host Sara Haines, 46, took the que to advise that public figures who took the step to shed off some pounds should always be transparent about the method they used to lose weight.

At that point, Joy Behar pointed out that “diets do not work.” Her information came from her personal experience with dieting, “I’ve been on diets up and down, up and down. You lose it, then you gain it back. Nobody wants to be fat except a sumo wrestler. It’s uncomfortable, your clothes don’t fit, everybody wants to lose weight.” Farah Griffin, 34, also shared that when she gained weight in the first season of “The View,” it “was hard.”

Joy opined that it will be extremely hard to lose weight once one hits menopause, and Sunny Hostin, 55, agreed while adding, “After 50 it’s really difficult to lose weight. If people are doing this to make themselves feel better then I’m all for it. If you feel good about yourself, then mentally you’re going to also feel better. There’s an epidemic of depression in this country, an epidemic of women shaming women, men shaming men, men shaming women. It all has to stop.“

Wrapping up the segment, Whoopi advised, “We need to let people do what they need to do to get where they need to get to, and stop being mad that they’re not doing it your way. Cause it’s not like what you’re really doing. Just like you don’t actually know what our personal lives are. If you’re doing something that’s good for you and keeping you healthy, nobody’s mad at you.”

Just before they went off air Farah shouted, “And leave Kelly Clarkson alone!”
