The Walking Dead Spoilers: AMC Chief Knows Exactly Why TWD Ratings Declined

The Walking Dead Spoilers: AMC Chief Knows Exactly Why TWD Ratings DeclinedAMC chief Sarah Barnett discussed the drop in ratings. Ratings for The Walking Dead have been a steady decline for years. But that hasn’t stopped fans from watching the show. The series still has a dedicated fan base. Barnett claims that The Walking Dead universe won’t be affected by the “decline” in ratings.

The zombie series is now on its tenth season. Its November midseason finale titled “The World Before” had an all-time series low in live viewing numbers. It only attracted 3.21 million total views and had a 1.02 rating in the key 18-49 demographic, reports Comicbook.com.

Despite the decline in rating numbers, the Season 5 premiere back in 2014 had an all-time series high when it attracted 17.29 million viewers for the episode titled “Sanctuary.” The series was the highest-rated scripted series on cable television. So, what happened? Barnett sat down for an exclusive interview with The Los Angeles Times. “With AMC, it’s been a very ratings-driven network – to great success. The Walking Dead remains, for all of its much-talked-about declines, by far the biggest show in ad-supporter [cable],” Barnett said. “Our researchers, I believe, have not just a good or bad day but a good or bad week emotionally based on what news they have to deliver about ratings.”

The network had had “ambition” for The Walking Dead universe, and Barnett previously revealed that “there are endless stories to be told in this universe.” She believes that it’s not just this series that has declined in ratings. She believes the decline in rating numbers have a lot to do with online streaming and binge-watching. “Everything has declined,” Barnett said. “I come back to the fact that you’re never going to see audiences like the one we currently have for The Walking Dead in measurable television.”

Season 10 of The Walking Dead premieres episodes on Sunday, Feb. 23. On April 12 is the premiere of The Walking Dead: World Beyond. What are your thoughts on the decline in ratings? Do you agree that it has to do with online streaming? Sound off below in the comments section.
