Some fans are also familiar with the video game series, which has already been released in three installments by developer CD Projekt Red. Netflix’s adaptation is said to be influenced by both the video game and the books.

The books have been brought through life in various forms, including board games, card games, comic books, tabletop role-playing games, and video games. The Witcher will drop on Netflix on Dec. 20, 2019, and a second season of The Witcher has already been ordered by the streaming platform. Cavill opened up about his new role in a recent interview with Men’s Health. He said that he’s excited to get the “chance to find Geralt’s place in the world.”

Cavill wants to make the character relatable. He said that he understands how Geralt and his need of “trying so damn hard and being misconstrued or not appreciated. Geralt fans are familiar with this character through the books and games. He appears hardened by the world around him. But Cavill wants to add some depth and layer to this character that has never been seen before. He wants to make the hardened character more likeable and relatable to a bigger audience of viewers.

And it’s a challenge that Cavill is ready to accept. It’ll be interesting see how Cavill will portray Geralt in a time where people are looking for something to fill the void that Game of Thrones left off.
