This Game of Thrones Star Doesn’t Understand the Fan Backlash

Game of Thrones star Pilou Asbæk doesn’t understand what the fuss is all about. The actor played Euron Greyjoy on the HBO series. In a new interview, he revealed that he doesn’t understand the backlash over the show’s series finale. Not only does he not understand the backlash, but he thinks the finale is “perfect” as it is and doesn’t need to be changed.

Many GoT fans were vocal with their disappointment over the show’s conclusion. The final episode centered around Daenerys finally becomes the mad queen until Jon Snow murders her for her sins. Bran Stark ends up taking the crown and becomes the King of Westeros.

Most fans felt that the ending was rushed. They also felt that the final season lacked the character development that the series was known for. George R. R. Martin feels that the series could have gone on for ten seasons. But that wasn’t the case for showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. They decided to end the series after eight seasons with fewer episodes for the final two years. Most of the cast have sympathized with fans over the controversial finale.

However, Pilou Asbæk felts indifferent. When he attended the 2020 Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday night, Jan. 19, he said that the finale was “perfect,” as reported by Entertainment Weekly. But he still sympathizes with the fans. He said that he understands their frustration and would be upset as well. But as an actor on the show, he’s satisfied with how the series ended.

“It was a perfect ending, but people were upset because an era finished,” Pilou stated. “I kind of get it, I was a big fan of the show before I became a part of it, and if it had ended in that way, I would have been angry as well.”

Martin has yet to finish the book series. So, it’s unclear whether the story’s end will align with the series or if it will go into a different direction. Game of Thrones may not be over yet. Even though a previous spinoff series was canceled during the pilot stage, another series centered around the House Targaryen has been greenlit for HBO. Game of Thrones fans may get some satisfaction with this new series. What are your thoughts on the controversial season of Game of Thrones? Sound off below in the comments section.
