Game of Thrones Spin-Off Release Date in 2022, George RR Martin Faces Backlash

Game of Thrones Spin-Off Release Date in 2022, George RR Martin Faces BacklashThe Game of Thrones spin-off series finally has a release date. Of course, fans will have to wait. Fans who are looking forward to the spin-off series despite the disappointing GoT endings will have to wait a little longer. The series spin-off series House of the Dragon is expected to air sometime in 2022. This is the latest update from HBO programming chief Casey Bloys to Variety during the Television Critics’ Association winter press tour on Wednesday, Jan. 15, as reported via Radio.com.

This latest news broke at the time of the event. The highly anticipated spin-off series will be co-created by author George R.R. Martin and veteran showrunner, Ryan Condal. According to Bloys, it will be a complex series. Not even the cast has been officially announced yet. According to the Variety report, the series is based off the book Fire and Blood, which is centered around the House of Targaryen, and is the prequel that takes place 300 years before the events in Game of Thrones.

HBO previously passed on a prequel pilot from Martin and Jane Goldman, which was set 8.000 years before the series. It also included a cast and crew of women. Bloys claimed that that House of the Dragon had “a little bit more of a roadmap.” Even though it’s complex in theory, there are more worlds. Bloys also revealed that Watchmen is likely to get a second series after creator Damon Lindelof left the series. This latest news comes after Martin received backlash from fans once again.

Readers have been waiting for the release of The Winds of Winter, the next book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series. The 71-year-old author has been involved in another book that was inspired by the new HBO spin-off series. Martin told fans that Fire and Blood would be released on paperback on May 5. But instead of receiving an excited response from fans, readers are angry that he pushed back The Winds of Winter once again, according to the Independent.

Despite the backlash, Martin wrote on his blog that he won’t get involved with the writing on House of the Dragon.

“I expect to be involved in [the production of House of the Dragon. But… let me make this perfectly clear…I am not taking on any scripts until I have finished and delivered Winds of Winter,” Martin wrote. “Winter is still coming – and Winds remains my priority, as much as I’d love to write an [episode] of House.”
