This Is Us fans saw how many family members arrived at the hospital. They were there because Jack Damon Jr. (Blake Stadnik) and Lucy Damon (Auden Thornton) were welcoming their child into the world. One of the people that came by is Hailey, but Toby and Kate were not seen. You would think that they would make it to the hospital to meet their grandchild, so this sparked some theories.

One of the most talked-about theories is the reason why Toby and Kate were not at birth is that they were already dead. This certainly is possible. The show hasn’t shied away from death before. After all, Kate’s own father, Jack Pearson (Milo Ventimiglia) died from complications following a house fire. The “Big Three” were still kids at the time, so the death made a mark on them.

However, based on Metz’s chat with the publication, it seems like Toby and Kate might not die before Hope’s birth after all. The actress suggested we might be reading too much into the couple not being seen. She said,

“The camera could have just been really wide and they could be right at the door. Maybe we’re reading too much into it.”

Of course, Metz wouldn’t be able to reveal any solid spoilers, especially one as huge as character deaths. So, we will just have to wait for This Is Us season 5 to premiere so we can find out for ourselves.
