“I mean, obviously, you saw that Kate has now remarried to another man in that season finale of last year. When you get to sort of see how things dissolve and how it unravels, you need to brace yourself because while neither Kate nor Toby are right or wrong, you know, people just sort of grow apart if they don’t grow together.”

Metz explained that there is so much that happens in a relationship, including things that the individuals don’t notice. However, couples either grow together or they grow apart. Metz admitted that it’s sad but true, which makes Kate and Toby’s ending bittersweet.

However, she also stated in an interview with Us Weekly what makes it beautiful,

“They’re just sort of growing apart, and I think that’s such a beautiful way to — we always see these very tumultuous endings of relationships, and we’re gonna see that these are two people that love each other desperately but just aren’t meant to be together forever. And it doesn’t have to be terrible all the time. You can understand each other’s perspectives.”
