TV Reboot News: Producer on Gossip Girl and Kristen Bell, Plus Everything Known So Far

Gossip Girl

Earlier this year, a Gossip Girl reboot was announced. Now that the premiere is getting closer, the show bosses are revealing more information. Learn what’s different about this version, the cast, if any original actors are returning and more. Plus, a producer confirms that Kristen Bell will always be the voice of the TV show.

Gossip Girl Reboot: Synopsis

According to the official synopsis, a group of private school students in New York will make up the main cast. Eight years later, Gossip Girl 2.0 will show how much social media has evolved over the years and its impact on teens.

Social Media and a New Twist

Executive producer Joshua Safran discussed the upcoming series with Entertainment Tonight. He addressed the social media aspect that will be part of the Gossip Girl reboot.

“You know, the first time around, when the show started people were, like, checking in places on Foursquare and updating their locations on Facebook. Things we would never do now because we don’t want anyone to know where we are. That change alone changes the dynamic of what Gossip Girl means and how Gossip Girl interacts with the kids this day and age…”

While the original series focused on learning the identity of the gossip maven, there is a new twist in the reboot. However, what that twist is has not been revealed.

It was clarified that the new characters will not be updated versions of the original characters. It is not a sequel or continuation, it is a different angle.

Kristen Bell Will Always Be the Voice of Gossip Girl

It was previously confirmed that Kristen Bell is returning to narrate the show. In a statement released last month, it was stated that the actress “has always been and will always be the voice of Gossip Girl.”

Are Any Original Cast Members Returning?

The only original cast member that is confirmed to be coming back is Bell. However, there are standing offers for others to come back too, including Blake Lively, Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford, Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick. Only time will tell if they will actually make appearances, though.

Even if they don’t return, their characters will still be mentioned often in the new show.

TV Reboot News: Premiere Date and How to Watch

When Gossip Girl 2.0 will premiere has not yet been announced. However, we do know that it will be sometime in 2020.

The television series will air on the streaming service HBO Max.
