Why David Tennant Isn’t Happy With The New Season Of Doctor Who

Just because David Tennant is no longer on Doctor Who, doesn’t mean he doesn’t have an opinion on it. The former Doctor Who star isn’t happy with the new series for one very good reason. He doesn’t like that the show no longer has Christmas specials, which famously aired from 2005 to 2017. Tennant starred on the long-running BBC series from 2005 in 2010 as The Tenth Doctor. Doctor Who focused on the Time Lord as he moved through time and space during the TARDIS.

The first version of the doctor was portrayed by William Hartnell until 1966. It was then revealed that the Time Lord could regenerate himself during near-death situations. While the character retained the same memories and skills, the different plots allowed for different actors to play the role of the Doctor. Since its inception, thirteen actors have played the time-traveling hero. Tennant’s role is one of the most popular roles. His character was relatable and perfectly portrayed the iconic persona that’s associated with the character.

Doctor Who has left a cultural impact on society, especially with its Christmas specials. The Christmas specials aired in 2005 when Tennant took over the role. The tradition carried on from the classic era of Doctor Who with Hartnell breaking the fourth wall to wish the audience a wonderful Christmas season. However, they’ve become few and far in between with the show’s latest revival. Fans have been talking about their favorite Christmas episodes since there are no others to look forward to. Tennant has also been wondering why the Christmas specials stopped.

In a clip posted by Tytteas on YouTube, Tennant is seen on stage with Matt Smith. The actors are seen talking about the Christmas specials. Smith revealed that he would love to star in the Christmas episodes for the rest of his life. He explained that there was something magical about the Christmas specials. Tennant agreed with him and remarked that he was proud of the specials as well. He then asked Smith and the rest of the audience why there aren’t any more Christmas specials.

Jodie Whittaker now stars as the lead. It was previously reported via ScreenRant that she would not get to star in her own Christmas special. Instead, there was a one-hour premiere episode on New Year’s Day. This was the case for 2019 and 2020. The news was received by the mixed reaction. Some support the decision, seeing it as a way of keeping the show fresh. Others feel that it would be better to continue the tradition. What are your thoughts?
