“The Walking Dead” may have ended, but I guess the time hasn’t come for fans to say goodbye to the world they’ve built across ten seasons. This new apocalyptic adventure will focus on the characters Rick and Michonne, with the keyword being Rick and Michonne.
The newly announced title, “The Walking Dead: Rick and Michonne,” will surely make it easy for fans to remember who the spinoff’s main characters are, and, well, it kinda also saves the production team time from having to come up with a better title. Initially, it was announced as “The Walking Dead: Summit,” but for some reason, it did not stick.
All We Know About “The Walking Dead’s” Spinoff
Rick Grimes and Michonne are two characters that fans absolutely loved in the hit series. In fact, fans loved them so much that they’re now getting their own show. The plotline for the show will see Rick and Michonne reunite and try to find love anew in a hostile and unforgiving environment.
The last time Rick and Michonne saw each other, Rick sacrificed himself to save his family from a swarm of walkers by detonating a bridge. At the time, Michonne naturally thought that he didn’t survive, not knowing that he was rescued by the elusive Jadis/Anne (Pollyanna McIntosh), who later traded him to the Civic Republic. When Michonne learns of Rick’s survival, she embarks on a journey to find him and reunite their family, which includes two children Judith (Cailey Fleming) and Rick “RJ” Grimes Jr. (Antony Azor).
The premise for the spinoff was cleverly set in the finale episode of “The Walking Dead,” “Rest in Peace,” when we saw Rick’s escape from the Republic’s capital thwarted by a CRM helicopter. On the other hand, the last time we saw Michonne, who is armored and armed with her iconic katana, she was riding into a canyon filled with walkers.
“The Walking Dead” Showrunner On the Spinoff’s Premise And What Fans Can Expect
During a recent interview, Scott M. Gimple, “The Walking Dead’s” Universe’s chief content officer and showrunner, revealed that the spinoff will be an epic tale of love and survival.
“These are two people that have been separated for a very long time. They’ve lived whole other existences and they have to find themselves again, let alone each other. It’s hopefully going to be mind-blowing. We see this incredible power couple, but we also see that Red Machete Rick. We see that Michonne who taught a thing or two to the Governor. [The series] kind of goes coast to coast that way between the intimate and the epic and the insane.”
