Sad news in the world of soaps: actress, Broadway performer, and songwriter Ellen Weston has passed away.
Ellen worked on Another World, Guiding Light, and The Young and the Restless. She died in an L.A. medical center on May 28 at the age of 87. More details below.
Ellen Weston’s Legacy
Weston landed her first Broadway show in 1960 after attending the Performing Arts High School, Hofstra University, New York University, and Hunter College.
She was cast in “Toys in the Attic” as an understudy and then went on to appear in other Broadway shows, “A Far Country”, and “Mary, Mary”.
Weston debuted in the land of soaps on Guiding Light in 1963, playing Robin Fletcher for about a year, and moved on to play nurse Karen Gregory and Carol Pearson on Another World from 1964 to 1965. F
rom 1978 to 1980, the actress played the role of Suzanne, the ex-wife of Derek Thurston, and the woman had a vengeful streak.
At the time, Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper) and Jill (Foster) Abbott (Jess Walton) were vying for Derek’s attention, and Suzanne ended up poisoning Katherine!
She also scored primetime roles in shows like S.W.A.T. and NBC’s Get Smart. In addition, Weston appeared on Bewitched, The Bob Newhart Show, Bonanza, and Wonder Woman, just to name a few.
Weston’s Writing Career
Weston was not only a talented actress but also a lyricist, co-writing songs with Lesley Gore for her albums “Love Me By Name” and “Someplace Else Now”.
As the years went by, Weston went to law school and moved behind the scenes in showbiz, working as a writer.
She wrote some film scripts and was hired by Guiding Light in 2003 as head writer, crafting stories for the soap for many years.
Weston was once married to Ami Hadani, a music engineer, as well as Marvin Laird, a composer. She is survived by her son, sound designer Jon Weston.
