The Young and the Restless spoilers and updates tease that fan-favorites, Michael Mealor and Hunter King, are set to return to Genoa City sometime in October. The news was confirmed by a Y&R spokesperson to Soap Opera Digest.
Mealor, who played Kyle Abbott on The Young and the Restless, and King, who portrayed Summer Newman, left the daytime drama soap earlier this month after failed contract talks. Fans thought they’ve seen the last of the pair after their alter egos decided to stay in Italy for good.
But then again, the characters are set to return to the CBS soap opera for a short visit. The actors will reportedly start filming their scenes this week. Although it will only be a brief visit, fans will surely look forward to seeing Kyle and Summer back in town.
The Young And The Restless – Summer Newman Leaves Town
Fans may recall that Summer left Genoa City after Tara Locke (Elizabeth Leiner) blackmailed her that she needs to move to Italy if she wants Kyle to continue seeing his son. Kyle was devastated when she left but Phyllis Newman (Michelle Stafford) wasn’t having any of it. After some digging, Phyllis found out that what Tara and Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) did to her daughter.

Phyllis wanted payback so she proved that Tara stole from her company, which led to her arrest. Lauren also fired Sally and Kyle moved to Italy with Harrison to be with Summer. Kyle’s decision to be with the love of his life marks the actor’s exit from the soap.

The Young And The Restless – Michael Mealor Hints A Possible Return
In an exit interview with “Dishing with Digest” podcast, Mealor hinted that his doors are open for a possible return. The actor explained that the soap has become a significant part of his life given the number of hours he spends filming his scenes, not to mention the relationships he has formed with the cast and crew.
The actor shared that they were just trying to find some middle ground. Unfortunately, they didn’t and that’s why Kyle’s chapter on the soap is coming to a close. Their contract negotiations may have failed but he’s not closing his doors.
“I’m just kind of taking it day by day and figuring things out, but who knows what will happen?” the actor said.

I can’t wait to see Summer and Kyle back . They are a great part of the show
I don’t want Kyle and Summer to be gone. I have grown to love them. Please renew contracts and give them some more great story lines.
I personally don’t care if Kyle and summer come back. I’d like to see them come back as grown ups instead of acting like spoiled, selfish brats. The storyline with Sally Spectura is nauseating. Get rid of her , she’s awful and shows what a nasty, fake individual she is.
Didn't even miss them and certainly not looking forward to their same old dull and boring love life. Of course we know where this is going Summer will return having been the best thing to happen in Milan ( like that's believable, NOT). Barbie Doll Kyle will be over acting like Harrison is the only child ever to be born. I can just feel the boredom coming on. Just a excuse to give these two a paycheck.
