For years. Summer Newman (Hunter King) and Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) have been on-again/off-again with a huge fan base and all those fans rooting for them to get together. Even when Kyle was married to Lola Rosales (Sasha Calle), the Skyle fans didn’t give up. They finally got the couple they wanted, Lola basically vanished, and then Hunter King and Michael Mealor left the soap. At least Y&R got them to return for a bit, but for what?

All we heard about for weeks were Summer and Kyle’s wedding plans and their immediate family flying to Italy for the big event. Summer’s aunt, Victoria (Amelia Heinle), was also getting married in Italy, but unfortunately, the only wedding we got to see was Victoria and Ashland’s (Richard Burgi) — a couple not too many fans are invested in. In fact, Victoria and Ashland only met six months ago, so there was little build-up for this.

And it turns out, Summer and Kyle were brought back for Victoria and Ashland’s wedding when we only got to learn about their wedding from family members that jet-setted from Milan to Tuscany to do the Newman wedding circuit. Why would a wedding for a fan-favorite couple be off-screen when the show got the actors back and then offer this big wedding for the new couple? Make it make sense

Skyle fans got cheated out of the beautiful wedding they waited years for so that the soap could focus on Victoria and a man she has only known for a few short months — and also a man who has done nothing but lie to her almost the entire time they’ve been together. That’s not how soaps are supposed to deliver a payoff. When newlyweds Summer and Kyle showed up at the Newman Villa, it fell flat because we felt we were cheated out of so much.
