Yes, fans have followed this storyline into the fourth season of the year. Maybe Chance will return before winter arrives if he completes his super-secret case.
The entire tale has been strange and stretched. A way to resolve it in a digestible manner would be to reveal that Chance has been working undercover while shadowing Ashland Locke (Richard Burgi), whose real name is Bobby Defranco.
The Young And The Restless Spoilers – Victor Newman’s Special Powers
Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) has long been the lead male character in this soap opera. He remains all-powerful on Y&R. Most recently he somehow managed to learn that Jesse Gaines Junior (Jamison Jones) was in town and was connected to Ashland.
As viewers recall, Victor had a conversation with Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) at the Chancellor mansion during their grandson’s Christening. He told her that they were going to do something about Dominic Newman Abbott Chancellor’s (no baby actor known to be cast for this role) father. When the great Victor Newman pronounces that something will happen, it generally does.

Y&R Spoilers – Ashland Locke Protected By The Moustache
Victor is bound and determined to see Victoria Newman’s (Amelia Heinle) wedding through to realization. He also just gifted her the deed to his estate in Tuscany, Italy, where the Vashland wedding is scheduled to be held in October.
Connecting the soapy dots, it is not a stretch to think that Chance’s return to active duty with the agency was needed because of the uniqueness of the case. Investigating Ashland’s backstory would take time because Bobby covered his tracks so well until arriving in GC.
So, either Chance can return because Victor will wipe Ashland’s errors away, or he can apprehend Bobby before or on his wedding day. That would evoke memories of Victor’s use of the authorities during Victoria’s wedding to Billy Abbott (as then played by Billy Miller).

The surrogate storyline was intriguing and heartfelt. Great acting resulted, most especially through Camryn Grimes’ (Mariah Copeland) performances.
Bryton James (Devon Hamilton) is now playing off that story as well. Devon is just beginning to explore his connection to Dominic and consider having a family with Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan).
But what about Abby Newman Abbott Chancellor (Melissa Ordway)? This poor (in spirit) lady has endured far too much and needs her husband back.
Chance (either in the form of Boaz, Ordway’s real-life husband, Justin Gaston, or a newly recast actor) needs to be written back to GC. Although, he may have been in GC all along, tracking Bobby’s every move.
