Phyllis never got the chance to perform. She made a misguided trip to Newman Media and created an exploratory discussion with Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) without Daniel’s knowledge or approval.

That was not grounds for termination. But Daniel kept his mom on thin ice until it broke when she flew to Portugal. Heather and Lucy’s trip to GC proved worthwhile, with Daniel unwilling to recognize Phyllis’ good intentions or the effect she produced.

The quick renewal of ties between Daniel and Lucy reinforced how much they love each other. Lucy is very young and did not know how to respond to her father’s personality shift.

Daniel explained that his career issues created a loss of focus on priorities, meaning she and Heather. Thankfully for Lucy, Heather became a mother to her after Daisy Carter Romalotti (Yvonne Zima) abandoned her maternal obligation many years ago.
