Diane can fly to Genoa City, Wisconsin. She can make herself present when Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) jets in from Italy as his father requested.

But can she win back the trust of her son? If not, then she is done. However, TPTB would probably not revive Diane and rehire Walters, who played this character with great range for a long period, simply as a short-term venture.

Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) might say that Diane is the Queen of Liars. But Stafford’s character would also have to grudgingly acknowledge that Diane is resilient.

Diane made an impression on Allie, with Wang’s character understanding that point of view. It was quite a quick accomplishment, considering that Allie also knows she was used.

Diane told Allie that she would be accepted by her grandfather’s family. But she also noted that the Abbott’s would need to let her in first.

Jack benefits from what Diane never did in GC. He comes from a tight, well-heeled family. Yes, they are protective of their own.

The Abbott family’s collective demeanor was built through the late Dina Mergeron’s (Marla Adams) abandonment of her responsibilities as its matriarch when Jack, Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson), and Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) were children.

Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) is a half-brother, with Jill Abbott Atkinson (Jess Walton) being his mother. Thompson’s character is siding with Jack, as are the Abbott sisters because they do not trust Diane.

Kyle is not Diane’s young son anymore. He is married and has a son, who Diane also wants to know.

Hardcore viewers know that Diane will eventually gain a semblance of the relationship she once had with Kyle. But that will take a while, and he will likely never trust her again completely.

Diane likely has grander plans. Reclaim a bond with Kyle, and then use that connection to be with Jack, as she was all those years ago on Y&R.
