Even though Adam and Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) will never be close, there will be a major shift in their relationship. Co-executive producer and head writer Josh Griffith explained how Nick will be a big influence on Adam’s future, and whether he can truly change.

Y&R spoilers reveal that the past few weeks, we have seen Adam really come to terms with the things he has done in the past. Right in the middle of Chelsea Lawson’s (Melissa Claire Egan) scheme, Adam “saw” visions of the two women in his life. Chelsea and Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case) were both explaining to Nick how he brought this on himself. That is when he realized that he needed to leave Genoa City for a while. Part of it was fleeing the police but the other part of it was to evaluate his life.

Nick will be a huge influence on Adam and whether he can really change for the better. Of course, whether someone changes is really up to them, but it can be complicated. People tend to be tied down to how people view them. If people always expect one to act a certain way, then they tend to stay that way. Griffith used this type of reasoning to explain why it’s been so hard for Adam to change his ways.

At the same time, he explained that Nick has the opportunity to look at his brother in a new light. That alone could be enough to force Adam to switch gears and really start to become a better man.

The Young and the Restless spoilers reveal that Griffith told Soap Opera Digest that Adam has always been caught in a Catch-22.

“What Adam needs is for people to say, ‘Yeah, you can do this.’ The reason he’s never been able to is that it’s been a Catch-22. He keeps doing these horrible things because people expect him to. No one’s ever believed he can be anything but that.”

Y&R Spoilers – Is Redemption Possible?

Griffith said that if Nick gives Adam the opportunity to be seen in a new light, it could change everything for the character. However, he also teased that the change might not last forever.

“These guys will never be best buds, but if Nick can see his brother in a different light and give Adam the opportunity to change, maybe he has a chance to be a better man… He will come out of this determined to change his life, and if he’s successful, how long will it last?”
