Chance told Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case) that Rey didn’t die from injuries relating to the car accident. Rey had a massive heart attack, and the coroner believes the detective didn’t have time to even know what was happening. So, Rey didn’t suffer and went quickly, which might be some comfort for Sharon.
