It seems as though his plan was to fake illness to gain Victoria’s sympathy, along with other high-stakes players in Genoa City, Wisconsin. He and his then-wife took a trip to Peru, where an apparent experimental treatment was available.

Michael Baldwin’s (Christian Le Blanc) assignment, as directed by Victor, led to conversations with two doctors. Both say that Ashland’s money bought a falsification of his medical records. So, Ashland’s claim of remission advanced what seems to be a sinister plot.

It is not out of the question to believe that Ashland paid the referenced doctors to lie to Michael. But if he did not, then Victor has him dead to rights.

A fierce response is anticipated if Ashland feels he is in peril. Rather than admit what he did, leave Victoria or GC, Ashland could turn the daytime tables on the Newman family.

Going on offense against another member of Victor’s family would cause the Newman’s to fight a two-front war. That is where Nick’s threat becomes problematic for those who were in the room when he said it.

The Young and the Restless Spoilers – Adam Newman Defends Family

Victor would claim not to remember Nick saying he wanted to kill Ashland. Adam would do that as well. Just as Nick needs to keep his cool around Ashland, so too does Adam need to control his impulse to lash out against his brother-in-law and business associate.

Ashland is a master game player, which Bobby DeFranco (Ashland’s apparent real name) acknowledged. He could claim that Nick intended to kill him. But knowledge of that threat would have to come from the source, Adam, or Victor. That would be followed by the police questioning the trio or an attorney doing so in a subsequent attempted murder court case.
