In retrospect, there was nothing Phyllis could or should have done differently. She was open with him, supported all he did, and offered genuine love.

Nick was not involved with another woman and was not seeking to connect with one when they broke up. Phyllis had fallen back in love with Nick and believed they would remain together indefinitely.

But she was proven wrong by the reemergence of Nick’s obsession with his family’s so-called issues. Seeing those problems resolved a short time after the breakup reinforced fans’ feelings that the change in storyline direction was not natural but engineered.

Phyllis accomplished a lot since Stafford was rehired to play the character she first embodied in the 1990s. Today’s Phyllis is far less frantic and far more secure.

Her business success has not resulted from scheming. Hard work, persistence, Nick’s financial help, and resilience have combined to make The Grand Phoenix Genoa City, Wisconsin’s top special-event destination.

At one time, Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) was a playboy. Today, he is a man with regrets and a philosophical outlook. Bergman’s imminent return to the screen follows his emergency eye surgery for a retina tear.

The above implies that Jack will not rush into a reunion with Phyllis simply because she and Nick are over (again). However, Jack’s professed love for Phyllis indicates that he will forever be vulnerable to her. So, a reboot would be believable.

It could be compelling to see Phyllis and Jack try to establish a lasting relationship this year. They share measured outlooks and sincere love. That is enough to give this likable couple another chance on Y&R.
