It feels like when Y&R introduced Ashland Locke to Genoa City that they had no idea who he was or what they were going to do with him. He was there to be a foil for Summer Newman and Kyle Abbott, as was his wife, Tara, who didn’t last long with fans. When Hunter King and Michael Mealor decided to leave the show, the soap was likely left in a lurch and had to think fast to keep Richard Burgi and this character they created for him.

So, they scrambled and paired him with Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) and then started revealing more and more convoluted backstory for the character that they didn’t think through. How many lies can one man tell? How many lies can Victoria just say ‘oh well’ to and forge ahead with her wedding plans? It makes no sense and the story needs to end — fast.

First, it’s a hard story to even follow as Ashland tells a different story every other day, always having Victoria sit down so he can reveal another secret. Second, it just makes Victoria look more pathetic than she did when she almost married a cowboy named Travis a few years back.

Y&R Spoilers – Can This Story Even Be Salvaged?

Perhaps it’s time for The Young and the Restless to think fast and scramble once again to get itself out of the mess it created with this Ashland Locke insanity. Does that involve a murder mystery asking ‘Who Killed Ashland Locke?’ or will that involve just folding and having the character carted off to jail like his wife. Something has to give here and it shouldn’t be at the expense of a legacy character being destroyed by a character who was never meant for her to begin with.
