Viewers of The Young and The Restless will recall that there has been more than one type of “merger” where Ashland Locke and Victoria Newman are concerned! Ashland took Victoria up on her offer of moving in with her, after at first being hesitant and telling her he needed to return to New York City. Victoria, as viewers of The Young and The Restless will recall, talked Ashland out of it. She then requested a meeting with her ex-husband Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) to ask him to take their children more often than usual, their sharing joint custody. Victoria then explained that Ashland was moving in with her, after Billy asked if she was going on a business trip.

Billy was dumbfounded and there was a short argument between the two of them – he didn’t want their children to be exposed to a man who could die at any time right in front of them! Ashland has been having breathing problems more often as the time has gone on, his diagnosis being stage four lung cancer. Ashland has also appeared to be having more pain when he has these breathing problems. The lung cancer may be advancing rapidly and he may start to deteriorate just as rapidly. Now that he lives with Victoria, the warnings of Victoria’s family and friends may start to really hit home since she will see the progression of the cancer and its effects on Ashland from a front row seat!

In recent episodes of The Young and The Restless, viewers will recall how family and friends warned Victoria not to get too involved with a dying man. Victoria fell in love with Ashland in spite of herself, and he has a soft spot for her as well, which is how she convinced him to move in with her instead of returning to New York City. Victoria countered with various responses, from telling people – Billy, for one – that her personal life was none of their business, to minimizing her involvement with Ashland to her mother and father although Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) saw right through her!

Billy was very justified in his fears that his and Victoria’s children could very well find Locke dead if his expiration was sudden. The lungs are vital organs of the body, and any compromise of their function can be deadly. As many viewers of The Young and The Restless may know, people have died from asthma attacks, and many older people, especially with compromised immune systems have developed pneumonia and passed away in hospitals and nursing homes.

Ashland appears to only be in his early to mid-sixties, but as most people know, cancer obviously would cause his immune system to be compromised. Victoria will return home to find a shocking sight; she could find Ashland in the throes of an attack in which he has already turned blue, or even find him unconscious and unresponsive! She will fear that he is either dying or already dead!
