The great Eileen Davidson (Ashley) is about to be seen for the last time on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Ashley’s write-out involves an incredible Jabot secret that is about to impact her rival sibling in a way Jack (Peter Bergman) never anticipated.
Marla Adams (Dina) shocks Kyle (Michael Mealor) by revealing that she and John (Jerry Douglas) created a gift for Ashley years ago. The memory bank dive also isn’t swayed by someone else this time. Yes, that means you, Ashley.
Just when it looked like Davidson’s legacy character was going to be driven out of Genoa City in shame, this portion of the script appears to be switching. Kyle’s attempt to shred the document John and Dina created, that gives Ashley control over Jabot’s patents, fails.

It’s natural to believe that prior to Ashley’s exit she’ll learn of the power she’s held, but was never informed about for a to-be-explained reason. Whether Jack was aware of the secret safe that exists behind the wall panel, in what once was John’s office, and it’s contents isn’t known. Regardless, this knowledge will put ‘Jackie’ in check from this point forward.
It is fitting to have Ashley square off against Jack, in what could be one last battle. Flashback scenes from days gone by, intermixed with invented childhood happenings, have nicely enhanced today’s dramatic developments.
The entire Dina-related arc has provided Y&R’s audience with a deeply meaningful topic, both in fictional and realistic terms, to consider. The Alzheimer’s issue that continues to consume Ashley, Jack, Kyle, Abby (Melissa Ordway), Traci (Beth Maitland), and others generated one of the show’s best storylines in years.
It has proven fitting to place Davidson at the center of an arc that allowed her deep range to be relished by Y&R’s devoted and discerning audience. Yes, Ashley will be missed after she leaves. But maybe Davidson will reprise her legendary daytime role again someday, even if just in recurring status. With whatever proves true, she, like Ashley, is wished well.
