The Young and the Restless (YR) Spoilers: Devon Pays Off Elena’s Debts, She’s Not Pleased Feels Controlled

Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) was following Neil Winters‘ (Kristoff St. John) advice on ‘The Young and the Restless’. He was paying it forward by literally paying off Elena Dawson’s (Brytni Sarpy) student loan debt. However, that proved to be a point of contention.

So-called modern thoughts have some people perceiving generosity as control. That feeling comes from Elena’s backstory, which Devon is only beginning to understand. But Mr. Hamilton’s past and the very recent loss of the man he thought of as his father matters equally.

As viewers recall, Jett Slade (Gilbert Glenn Brown) took offense to Devon’s suggestion that he move into the penthouse and allow his medical issues to be addressed. Pride, both in his case and Elena’s, comes from a good place, as this niece and her uncle, who were written into the story by expanding Ana Hamilton’s (Loren Lott) backstory, are responsible individuals.

Young And The Restless Spoilers: Devon Hamilton’s Gift Seen As A Power Move

It’s somewhat understandable that, upon entering a personal relationship, one of the people in it would feel that a power shift would occur if the other person made a bold, unauthorized financial move. This effect was seen in a much lesser form earlier this year when Lola Rosales (Sasha Calle) was offended because Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) bought her an expensive purse.

Life in Genoa City has often been about walking on egg shells. One’s overreaction, or the appearance of it, fuels intended drama.

A nickname choice could be used in the case of this emerging couple that Devon and Elena represent as a demonstration of what’s happening. ‘Delena’, ‘Elevon’, or some other creative choice should be made based upon what sounds best, rather then fretting about which person’s first initial was used, meaning Devon’s, or Elena’s.

Days Of Our Lives Spoilers: Nate Hastings Puts A Good Word Into The Hospital For Elena Dawson

Though a follow-up scene between Nate Hastings (Sean Domonic) and Elena, where he offered to put in a good word for her at the hospital where she was interviewing, proved intriguing. Nick-picking, while believing that represents nuance, would see Nate as having asked permission before going ahead with the reference. Devon would be deemed in the wrong because he assumed Elena would be happy to have the debt she willing assumed lifted from her life.

Elena’s surprised reaction to Devon’s kind gesture makes sense, based upon the detail she offered about it. His act isn’t one that most people would be capable of making, or would in fact make, even if they could. Hopefully, Elena recognizes Devon’s heart and he comes to understand her sensitivities as Jett did.

Most importantly, kudos to Y&R for writing Neil’s world forward. His light continues to shine through Devon’s compassion for others.
