These aren’t the good old days on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Yes, Y&R is still daytime television’s highest-rated scripted show. But many fresh faces now dominate many Genoa City scenes.
Charlie (Noah Alexander Gerry) and Mattie (Lexie Stevenson) have been playing the recast Ashby twins since 2017. Their roles appear primed to become more prominent now that longtime regular contract cast member Christel Khalil (Lily) has opted to move to recurring status.
Fans will be seeing less of Lily, whose jail sentence is set to last through next September. That hopefully means the twins and their dad, Cane (Daniel Goddard), will be written into new adventures, rather than having the Ashby family presence reduced.
Brooks Darnell (Nate) represents another character recast. He joined Y&R earlier this year, which helped to revive Olivia’s (Tonya Lee Williams) part of the show. As longtime viewers recall, Olivia and her sister, Drucilla (Victoria Rowell), were once prominent personalities in GC.

A nice play-in took place this summer when Neil (Kristoff St. John) connected Nate with Victor (Eric Braeden) in order to provide discrete medical services. Darnell’s character evokes a modest comparison to the Malcolm Winters (Shemar Moore) role. Nate serves as a confidant for Neil and set’s up as a potential romantic interest for someone special, likely meaning Victoria (Amelia Heinle).
Cait Fairbanks (Tessa) joined the cast last year. Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) took an immediate interest in Miss Porter, which opened the door to the Newman family. While Mariah (Camryn Grimes) is not blood, the main GC clan tie eventually led to her connection with Tessa.
Michael Mealor is the latest in a series of actors to play Kyle. The recast has proven to be spot on, as Mealor clearly projects a younger Jack (Peter Bergman), while also creating his own niche. Having moved past Summer (played by Hunter King and temporarily by Bayley Corman), Kyle has set his sights on running Jabot and on romancing Lola (Sasha Calle).
Calle, Jason Canela (Arturo), and Jordi Vilasuso (Rey) are the Rosales’ family. Lola’s brothers have already made various connections with current GC residents. Arturo is dating Abby (Melissa Ordway) and was hired by Nick (Joshua Morrow) to work for Dark Horse. Rey is handling the J.T. (Thad Luckinbill) case, which includes just hiring Sharon (Sharon Case) to work with him at the police department.
Alice Hunter is also soon set to debut as Kerry Jones, who will be Jabot’s new chemist. Hunter’s addition to the cast will continue Y&R’s blending of fresh and familiar faces.
