Jack (Peter Bergman) was going to drop his month’s-long effort on ‘The Young and the Restless’. But then Victor (Eric Braeden) literally showed his face at the Abbott house and the course correction changed.
Seeing the ‘Moustache’s‘ smug mug appear outside his doorway surely elicited a collective laugh from Y&R’s audience. Of course, Jack’s classic lip-biting response telegraphed who had arrived at a later hour before Braeden’s alter ego was shown.
Threatening Jack to back off his pursuit of Albert Miller’s (played by the late George Kennedy) deep history wasn’t smart. Like the potentially former Mr. Abbott, Mr. Newman is afraid of what might be the truth. Victor doesn’t generally make foolish moves. But he did in this instance and Jack was convinced to continue pursuing Y&R’s evolving paternity arc.

Matt Miller’s (Richard Gleason) arrival is imminent, which means that Jack won’t need Victor’s consent to compare DNA samples. Fans of this site know that Gleason is the recast actor in a role that was once filled by Robert Parucha.
Victor’s brother isn’t motivated to block Jack’s efforts. Unlike the ‘Black Knight’, Matt also isn’t protecting a corporate empire from a longtime enemy.
The assertion that Jack is hoping to prove that Albert is his father so that he can then stake a claim on Newman Enterprises is misguided. But Victor isn’t thinking clearly. As he noted, Albert had nothing to do with the founding of Newman. So, even if Jack proves to be Victor’s brother, there (probably) is no legal standing that could be made.
Jack’s mention that all other men shown on the black and white photo have been ruled out except for Albert may, or may not be true. Stuart Brooks (Robert Colbert) was part of the group who were shown adoring Dina (Marla Adams) all those decades ago. Jack’s momentary discussion with Lauren (Tracey Bregman), while they were ruling out her father, Neil Fenmore (Jim Storm), based upon blood type dissimilarities was nothing more than conjecture.
And, separate from all adventures Jack’s pursued to-date, was John (Jerry Douglas) shown in that photo? Through it all, various hardcore Y&R fans are still hoping that Bergman’s character somehow learns that he’s not Jack Miller, or Jack Brooks, but instead remains who he always was, the one, only, ever Jack Abbott.
